Wilbert Plastics buys injection molder United Southern Industries

BELMONT, N.C. (Updated March 8, 12:35 p.m. ET) -- Wilbert Plastics Services Inc. has acquired United Southern Industries Inc., an injection molder based in Forest City, N.C. Wilbert President and CEO Greg Botner said the deal allows Wilbert to expand its manufacturing footprint in the southeastern United States. Meanwhile, Wilbert is closing a thermoforming plant in Winthrop, Iowa. March 5, 2010

Pactiv buying PWP for $200 million

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Updated Feb. 24, 5:05 p.m. ET) -- North America's largest thermoformer is growing through acquisition again. Pactiv Corp. announced Feb. 23 that it is buying PWP Industries for $200 million. PWP, based in Vernon, Calif., specializes in food-service products made from amorphous PET. The company posted 2009 sales of about $140 million. Pactiv said the deal represents an opportunity to expand its position in APET. February 24, 2010

Ohio's Myers posts small fourth-quarter profit

AKRON, OHIO (Feb. 24, 10:30 a.m. ET) -- Myers Industries was able to turn a profit in the fourth quarter of 2009, as sales rose 5 percent and the company earned $941,000, or 3 cents per share. That's a sharp turnaround from the final quarter of 2008, when the diversified polymer products company reported a loss of $59.1 million, or $1.67 per share. February 24, 2010

Firm says temporary plastic walls save landfill space

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 18, 12:45 p.m. ET) -- As a longtime carpenter and contractor, Douglas Spear is bothered by the mess caused by the removal of temporary walls made of drywall mounted on metal studs. He estimates that every 12-foot-high-by-70-foot-long temporary wall that is demolished sends about 1 ton of debris to the landfill. But now he has a recyclable alternative made from thermoformed plastic. February 18, 2010

D&W Fine Pack integrates foodservice acquisitions

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (Feb. 11, 3:55 p.m. ET) -- The integration of three foodservice packaging companies owned by Mid Oaks Investments LLC has occurred, with the new firm operating as D&W Fine Pack in Fountain Inn. D&W President and CEO Joseph Lancia said the firms — thermoformers Dispoz-o Products LLC of Fountain Inn, C&M Fine Pack Inc. of San Bernardino, Calif., and Wilkinson Industries Inc. of Omaha, Neb. — consolidated their head offices at Dispoz-o’s headquarters. Packaging thermformer Rohrer sold to private equity firm

WADSWORTH, OHIO (Jan. 26, 5:20 p.m. ET) -- The family that owned thermoformer Rohrer Corp. has sold its controlling interest to ShoreView Industries, a Minneapolis-based private equity firm. Founded in 1973 by brothers John and David Rohrer, Wadsworth-based Rohrer manufactures thermoformed blister packaging as well as paper card stock for blisters and folding paper cartons. January 26, 2010
