EVANSVILLE, IND. (Oct. 13, 8:30 p.m. ET) -- Berry Plastics Corp. announced today that it plans to buy Pliant Corp. after Pliant emerges from bankruptcy. Under a reorganization plan approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Oct. 6, Berry will receive 25 percent of the equity of Pliant. According to an Oct. 13 news release, Berry now also intends to acquire the remining 75 percent of the common stock.

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO (Sept. 30, 3:30 p.m. ET) — Thermoforming packaging firm Par-Pak Ltd. will add post-consumer recycled-content PET in its product lines starting in early 2010. The Brampton-based company announced in a news release that it is investing in a process to decontaminate and purify recycled PET to meet federal food grade standards in both the United States and Canada.

EDGERTON, WIS. (Sept. 30, 3:05 p.m. ET) -- Coextruded Plastic Technologies Inc. and sister firm Green-Tek Inc. are moving their collocated operations to a larger, updated, more-efficient plant in Janesville, Wis. The move is being driven by growth at CPT, which uses a process that allows food companies to print their logos and information onto trays, eliminating the need for press-on labels or cardboard sleeves.

SANDUSKY, OHIO (Sept. 28, 12:35 p.m. ET) -- A windmill that soars 100 feet above its corporate headquarters near Lake Erie has helped move Encore Plastics Corp. in a new direction. The Sandusky supplier of paint sundries is using wind energy as a means of saving energy and as a side business.

SANDUSKY, OHIO (Sept. 28, 12:15 p.m. ET) -- Behind his desk at Encore Plastics Corp.’s Sandusky headquarters, President Craig Rathbun keeps a battered leather briefcase. It belonged to his father, John Rathbun, the firm’s chairman, who died March 1 of a heart attack at age 71. “I’m afraid to open it,” Craig Rathbun said. “But it makes me feel better having it there.”

READING, PA. (Sept. 25, 1:50 p.m. ET) -- Tray-Pak Corp., a custom packaging thermoformer, has a new majority owner. The buyer is TPC Partners LLC, an affiliate of Archbrook Capital Management LLC. Tray-Pak also announced that Scott Myers has joined the company as CEO. He was previously executive vice president at WinCup Inc.

NEW WASHINGTON, OHIO (Sept. 25, 1:30 p.m. ET) — In a deal involving two family-owned thermoformers in small Ohio towns, Wurm’s Woodworking Co. has acquired a majority stake in Creative Plastics Inc. Both companies are under second- and third-generation ownership. Wurm’s Woodworking employs 30 and runs six thermoforming lines at its plant in New Washington. Creative Plastics has 15 employees and runs three thermoformers in Jackson Center.

SALALAH, OMAN (Sept. 1, 2:20 p.m. ET) -- PET resin maker and sheet extruder Octal Holding & Co. plans to have sheet production sites operating in both the U.S. and Western Europe in the next 24 months. Octal operates almost 400 million pounds of annual amorphous PET sheet capacity and almost 700 million pounds of annual resin capacity at a site in Salalah. Octal expects sales to skyrocket from $50 million in 2008 to $400 million this year, as a result of having its plant at full production.

LAKE MILLS, WIS. (Aug. 18, 4:25 p.m. ET) — Fiberglass molder Fiberdome Inc. is expanding and looking for up to 60 experienced workers. The Lake Mills-based company has been trying to recruit workers from other regions such as Indiana, which has seen its manufacturing levels decrease because of a slowing recreational vehicle industry.

HOUSTON (Aug. 18, 11:10 a.m. ET) --
The head of a company looking to locate nine plants in the U.S. to make and distribute corn-based, vacuum formed dinnerware said the firm will announce its locations within 30 days. John Pitre, CEO of Variety Global Business Group of Houston, said the plants will handle both processing and distribution. Pitre also disputed claims from a former employee at a former company who has raised questions about Pitre’s background.
