Johnson Controls buys Plastech´s interiors unit
DETROIT (July 2, 4:30 p.m. EDT) -- Automakers are staggering from the industry’s downturn, but the auto supply business may have just regained some stability as Johnson Controls Inc. takes over the interiors operation of bankrupt Plastech Engineered Products Inc.

Lego taking production back in-house
BILLUND, DENMARK (July 2, 3:50 p.m. EDT) -- Toy maker Lego A/S said July 1 it will end its outsourcing agreement with electronics manufacturer Flextronics International Ltd. in 2009. The Danish firm will take over Lego production from Flextronics factories in Juárez, Mexico, and Nyíregyháza, Hungary.


Maker of EcoHangers raises $10 million
NEW YORK (July 2, 2:45 p.m. EDT) -- Hanger Network Inc. has raised $10 million in a second fund-raising round to expand distribution of its EcoHangers made of plastic and paper. The 5-year-old firm claims to have grown 500 percent since 2005.

ST. LOUIS (July 1, 11:15 a.m. EDT) -- Solutia Inc. is considering the sale of its nylon business - a unit that generated just over half, or $1.9 billion, of the firm’s sales in 2007. The company operated in Chapter 11 bankruptcy for more than four years before exiting Feb. 28.

Plastech details uncovered despite lawyers´ efforts
DEARBORN, MICH. (June 30, 6:35 p.m. EDT) -- As the five-month, breakneck bankruptcy case of Plastech Engineered Products Inc. comes to a close, a final chapter was written last week when Crain’s Detroit Business, a sister publication of Plastics News, obtained documents Plastech’s lawyers had tried to keep private: compensation details for Brown, her husband Jim and eight other family members.

Hicks acquiring Graham in $3.2 billion pact
YORK, PA. (June 30, 5:15 p.m. EDT) -- Dallas-based Hicks Acquisition Co. Inc. said it will buy Graham Packaging Holdings Co. in a deal worth $3.2 billion, and it plans to take the bottle maker public. HAC, founded by Texas Rangers owner Thomas Hicks, will own 66 percent of Graham shares. The current owners, Blackstone Group and Graham Group, will hold the remaining 34 percent.

Teamwork paying off big for BASF in furniture
