SAINT-ANTONIN, QUEBEC (Oct. 14, 12:40 p.m. ET) -- The Canadian and Quebec governments have contributed to the startup of a new rotational molder in Saint-Antonin. Industries Rototeck Inc. specializes in making parts for plastic trunks and accessories for all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.

OOSTBURG, WIS. (Oct. 14, 12:10 p.m. ET) -- In a move to become more efficient, rotational and blow molder Dutchland Plastics Corp. is consolidating operations from two plants to one in its hometown of Oostburg, north of Milwaukee. The move is more than a reaction to the slow economy. In fact, Dutchland leaders say a push into lean manufacturing and continuous improvement — together with an improving economy — should result in doubling sales over the next five years.

BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND (Oct. 1, 3 p.m. ET) -- A team of specialists at Queen's University Belfast is pioneering a technique to use banana plantation waste from the Canary Islands in the manufacture of rotationally molded plastic products. The process of incorporating treated banana plant fibers in plastic molding is expected not only to reduce substantially the amount of polyethylene required, but also create jobs and benefit the environment, according to the university.

WENZHOU, CHINA (Sept. 18, 11:35 a.m. ET) — China’s small and largely domestic-oriented rotomolding sector has thus far had little foreign investment, but in interviews at a recent industry conference, executives said they are looking for foreign capital and partnerships to boost a sector they said has made some innovations but has generally been forced to develop on its own.

DENVER (Sept. 9, 3:45 p.m. ET) — Rotonics Manufacturing Inc. — one of North America’s largest rotational molders — has grown by acquiring Thermodynamics. The Broken Arrow, Okla.-based company has annual sales of $6.5 million and employs 45 at a 30,000-square-foot site. Thermodynamics makes plastic pallets and other rotomolded products. Denver-based Rotonics is a unit of investment firm Spell Capital LLC of Minneapolis.

STREETSBORO, OHIO (Sept. 3, 4:50 p.m. ET) — Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has presented Step2 Co. LLC, a Streetsboro-based maker of rotationally molded toys, with the Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Awards. Step2 claims to be the largest U.S. manufacturer of toys, a market dominated by imported toys. Step2 competes in more than 70 countries.

PITTSBURGH (Sept. 2, 12:35 p.m. ET) — Inspirion Ventures Inc. — a unit of Nova Chemicals — has taken its first large commercial order for its line of Cosmo-brand moving and storage containers. The collapsible containers are rotationally molded by Plasticraft Corp. of Darien, Wis.

ASHTABULA, OHIO (Sept. 1, 3 p.m. ET) -- Meese Orbitron Dunne Co. began commercial production with a Persico SpA automated Leonardo rotational molding system in La Mirada, Calif., in August after two weeks of tests. The first product is a new bulk laundry cart that MOD President Robert Dunne said would not have been possible to manufacture on other rotomolding machines.

CHAPECO, BRAZIL (Aug. 27, 11:30 a.m. ET) — Rotoline, which makes rotational molding machines in Chapeco, Brazil, has broken ground on a 54,000-square-foot factory — an investment of $1.4 million. Rotoline President Washington DeLuccas said the company needs more space at it builds larger rotomolders in its core line of shuttle machines, and a recent expansion into big rock-and-roll machines.
