MEXICO CITY (Nov. 20, 10:30 a.m. ET) -- Mexico’s first Artiplast trade show, designed to showcase plastics processors, took place in the capital’s World Trade Center Nov. 18-20, attracting 120 exhibitors and about 3,000 visitors. The organizer, the Instituto Mexicano del Plástico Industrial SC, or IMPI, plans to turn the show into an annual event where small- and medium-sized companies can show off their wares and services. DICKSON, TENN. (Nov. 17, 4:50 p.m. ET) -- Vinyl window profile extruder Bavarian Polymers USA Inc. is adding 4.5 million pounds of twin-screw extrusion capacity to its Dickson plant as part of a new product launch. Bavarian has developed a proprietary window profile stiffener designed to replace aluminum and steel. Company officials are calling the product Polymeric Reinforcement System, or PRES. BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (Nov. 12, 5:05 p.m. ET) -- A maker of thermoplastic bridges strong enough to hold military tanks has found a repeat customer in the U.S. Army. The Army has ordered two railroad bridges for Fort Eustis in Newport News, Va., home of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps., for $957,000. November 12, 2009
APODACA, MEXICO (Nov. 10, 4:55 p.m. ET) -- Vintech Industries Inc., an automotive industry Tier 2 supplier, is expanding its extrusion operations into Latin America in an effort to cut logistics costs. “Customers we serve both in the United States and Mexico have asked us to support their production lines down in Mexico and to keep the cost of logistics and the time it takes to ship to a minimum,” said Rick Taylor, manager of Vintech’s headquarters plant in Michigan. DETROIT (Nov. 3, 4:40 p.m. ET) -- Auctions are set Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 for two closed Visteon Corp. plants in Ohio and Missouri while surplus equipment from CertainTeed Corp.’s vinyl siding operation in Social Circle, Ga., will be auctioned on Dec. 3. November 3, 2009
ATLANTA (Nov. 2, 11:40 p.m. ET) -- Seven months after being acquiring by a private equity firm, Atlanta-based Filtrona Extrusion has been renamed Pexco. Management of the company, which operates seven manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Mexico, remains unchanged. November 2, 2009
HOUSTON (Oct. 29, 6:05 p.m. ET) -- Thermoset pipe maker Hobas Pipe USA is now offering non-circular profiles to the North American sanitary sewer market. The longtime manufacturer of centrifugally cast, fiberglass-reinforced polyester pipe is targeting the aging infrastructure market with its trenchless pipe rehabilitation technology. October 29, 2009
MACON, MISS. (Oct. 16, 2:30 p.m. ET) -- One year after shutting down unexpectedly, the former Outdoor Technologies Inc. plant in Macon, Miss., is back up and running under its second owner since the now-defunct Jancor Cos. Inc. went under in October 2008. Newly formed Exterior Profiles Corp. is now extruding rigid vinyl fence and railing profiles out of the 31-worker facility. October 16, 2009
DALLAS (Oct 15, 11:30 p.m. ET) -- High density polyethylene pipe and fittings maker Independent Pipe Products Inc. is moving into a former Performance Pipe facility in Abbeville, S.C. The Dallas-based company had been seeking an East Coast location since at least April when IPPI bought an American Maplan extrusion line capable of making pipe in diameters up to 65 inches. GUANGZHOU, CHINA (Updated Oct. 16, 11:45 a.m. ET) — Liansu Group, one of China’s largest plastic pipe makers, has opened a new factory in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, to target growing domestic demand for infrastructure projects. The factory has about 50 extrusion lines and several hundred employees. October 15, 2009
TOKYO (Oct. 12, 1:35 p.m. ET) — Tokai Rubber Industries Ltd. will substantially reduce production of automotive hoses in North America as part of a restructuring plan in the wake of the recession. The company said it will cease production of rubber and plastic hose at its plant in Ohio known as DTR-Ohio. The plant will continue to make rubber anti-vibration products. The plant at DTR Tennessee will stop making plastic hose, though rubber hose production will continue there. October 12, 2009
HENDERSONVILLE, TENN. (Oct. 9, 1:15 p.m. ET)  — Hendersonville-based window fabricator MGM Industries Inc. has bought and installed an automated vacuum coater that company officials say allows MGM to offer mass-produced painted window profiles in any exterior color. October 9, 2009
MEXICO CITY (Oct. 8, 2:30 p.m. ET) — Mexico’s antitrust authority has upheld its decision to block PVC and specialty chemicals maker Mexichem SAB de CV’s proposed purchase of plastic pipe maker Plásticos Rex SA de CV and PVC resin producer Polycid SA de CV from Cydsa SAB de CV, of Garza García. October 8, 2009
