Energy-efficient windows blamed for melting vinyl siding
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 10, 12:05 p.m. ET) -- Melting vinyl siding is getting its share of media attention in Charlotte. The culprit, according to the experts: energy-efficient low-E windows. Australia green building rules revised in favor of PVC
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (March 3, 5:50 a.m. ET) -- The body encouraging development of more environmentally friendly buildings in Australia has revised its previously negative view on PVC materials. The Sydney-based Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) said its new system for rating the plastic should be in force by April following a review that ended in February. and considered advances made by the PVC sector. AERT starts operations at plastics recycling site in Okla.
SPRINGDALE, ARK. (Feb. 26, 11:15 a.m. ET) -- A new plastics recycling facility near Watts, Okla., is starting operations, Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. said. The AERT site received final approval from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality to start production, and an initial run took place Feb. 25. February 26, 2010

JM Eagle alleges kickback scheme in PVC pipe whistle-blower suit
LOS ANGELES (Feb. 19, 12:25 p.m. ET) -- JM Eagle is fighting back against a whistle-blower lawsuit that alleges the company knowingly made substandard PVC water and sewer pipe. In a Feb. 18 news conference, JM Eagle’s lawyers said none of the governmental bodies that have joined the suit had complained about leaking pipe. The lawyers also released a sworn statement from a pipe buyer who said the whistle-blower, John Hendrix, offered him a kickback deal. February 19, 2010
PVC pipe extruder JM Eagle hit with whistleblower lawsuit
SAN FRANCISCO (Updated Feb. 12, 3:25 p.m. ET) -- JM Eagle has been hit with a whistleblower lawsuit, joined by four states and 43 California cities and water districts, charging that under the direction of President Walter Wang, the company knowingly made substandard PVC water and sewer pipe to increase its profit. JM Eagle denied the charges. Spokesman Marcus Galindo said the company’s pipe “meets or exceeds all standards,” including for tensile strength. February 11, 2010
Helix opens molding and extrusion plant in Germany
ANAHEIM, CALIF. (Feb. 10, 11:10 p.m. ET) -- Helix Medical LLC has opened a 55,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Germany, its first medical manufacturing plant in the European market. The plant will be the cornerstone of the company’s newly formed Helix Medical Europe KG operations. February 10, 2010
SPE names award winners
NEWTOWN, CONN. (Feb. 8, 3:40 p.m. ET) -- Products with recycled content, made from renewable resources, or that biodegrade will be the focus of attention at the Plastics Environmental Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers’ annual conference. Baker, founder of NewAge Industries, dead at 91
SOUTHAMPTON, PA. (Feb. 8, 1:40 p.m. ET) -- Raymond Baker, founder of tubing and hose extruder NewAge Industries Inc., died on Jan. 28 following a brief illness. He was 91. Baker founded the company in 1954, initially to import hardness testing equipment from Italy. February 8, 2010
