BUTLER, WIS. (March 15, 2:55 p.m. ET) — Medical molder MRPC used 2009 to “reinvest in and retrench” its expertise and core capabilities, setting up 2010 as a year for improved growth. The Butler-based company’s last fiscal year was not a great one compared to the recent past, but it wasn’t terrible, either, said MRPC President Greg Riemer. The firm was able to attain a significant ISO certification, add key personnel and gain some customers based on subassembly work it’s doing more frequently.

ARLINGTON, VA. (Updated March 17, 10:30 a.m. ET) — The rate of growth for plastic bag and film recycling has virtually ground to a halt. An examination of the data released by the plastics division of the American Chemistry Council on March 16 found that the rate of growth in plastic bag and film recycling in 2008 was barely more than one-quarter of 1 percent. That’s even lower than in 2007 when the amount of material collected increased by 2.24 percent.

Exports boost 2009 resin sales total (March 17, 2010)

ARLINGTON, VA. (March 17, 9 a.m. ET) -- Full-year 2009 totals from the American Chemistry Council show that massive boosts in exports created year-over-year growth in high density and linear low density polyethylene. Each of the six major commodity resins — HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, polypropylene, polystyrene and PVC — tracked in the U.S. and Canada by Arlington, Va.-based ACC showed domestic sales losses in 2009 vs. 2008.
