SWEDEN (Nov. 5, 12:25 p.m. ET) -- Rapid Granulator AB has been granted a suspension of old debts by the District Court of Jönköping. The court has granted permission for a so-called reconstruction procedure, which under Swedish law, allows the company to continue in business. This means that Rapid will continue to operate as usual, including the fulfilment of all service contracts, product guarantees and obligations.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 5, 12:20 p.m. ET) -- Chris Keller, president of plastic processing auxiliary equipment manufacturer Conair Group Inc., has been named chairman of the executive board of the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. He replaces immediate past chair Jim Buonomo, the chief strategy officer and chief financial officer of Nypro Inc. in Clinton, Mass.

GLENVIEW, ILL. (Nov. 4, 6:20 p.m. ET) -- Illinois Tool Works Inc. today announced that it has acquired the assets of Greenville, S.C.-based packaging machinery maker Hartness International Inc. Hartness makes packaging equipment and conveyors for bottling and material handling. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

DETROIT (Nov. 3, 4:40 p.m. ET) -- Auctions are set Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 for two closed Visteon Corp. plants in Ohio and Missouri while surplus equipment from CertainTeed Corp.’s vinyl siding operation in Social Circle, Ga., will be auctioned on Dec. 3.

CHICAGO (Oct. 30, 12:15 p.m. ET) -- Chicago and Orlando each want to be the home of the 2012 and 2015 NPE trade show, and big-name politicians are making their case. SPI President and CEO Bill Carteaux met on Oct. 28 with Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley -- in Daley’s office -- and Carteaux has also discussed the issue with the mayor of Orange County, Fla., and the governors of Illinois and Florida. SPI’s 12-person NPE executive committee will have the final vote, and Carteaux said they plan to make a decision by the end of the year.

MOUNT GILEAD, OHIO (Oct. 23, 3 p.m. ET) -- HPM, a maker of plastics machinery and wind-turbine components, faces a mounting debt load and legal action. Morrow County in Ohio is seeking foreclosure for unpaid taxes, Huntington National Bank wants $13.7 million in loans repaid, and a lawsuit from a customer, International Plastics & Equipment Corp., froze some of HPM’s bank accounts.

FITCHBURG, MASS. (Oct. 23, 2:55 p.m. ET) -- Despite the economic downtown and a smaller presence, MassPlastics 2009 remains an important New England event, according to organizers. “We do the show because it is a statement for the region. It is not just to show the history of plastics, but to show that there is lot of diversity here, from medical devices to defense work to staple consumer goods -- that’s the primary reason,” said David McKeehan, president of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce.

Chicago and Orlando, Fla., both made presentations. President and CEO Bill Carteaux said SPI would make a choice by the end of the year.

FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY (Oct. 14, 11:55 a.m. ET) -- Swiss injection machinery maker Netstal AG will return to full-time work schedules beginning Nov. 1, citing a significant improvement in orders. The company has been operating on short-time work schedules in parts of its production plant since February and across most of the manufacturing operations since July.
