But the spring dates for NPE2012, mere weeks before that year’s Chinaplas trade show, have raised some concern.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 20, 1:55 p.m. ET) -- Moving NPE to Orlando, Fla., offers SPI the opportunity to attract new companies to the show, according to Gary Sain, president and CEO of the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We have got a lot of ideas on how to market the show and will be putting together a brand summit with SPI where we will sit down and talk about the strategy, what the objectives are and how we want to position the marketing of the show,” he said.

CHICAGO (Nov. 19, 4:20 p.m. ET) -- Organizers of other plastics trade shows aren’t rushing into the void created by NPE’s leaving Chicago for Orlando. Anne Meerboth-Maltz, public relations director for Messe Dusseldorf, organizers of Germany’s massive K Show, said: “We have no plans to enter the U.S. market.”

Updated Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m. ET) — The 2012 and 2015 NPE trade shows will be in Orlando, Fla. The news is a big loss for Chicago, which has been home to the show since 1971. Officials from the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., which produces the show every three years, emphasized that lower costs in Orlando are worth the risks involved with moving the show.

DANVERS, MASS. (Nov. 17, 9:55 a.m. ET) -- Danvers, north of Boston, is the new U.S. home for the Reifenhauser and Kiefel film machinery businesses. The 10,000-square-foot facility will house service, spare parts and project management teams to support customers in the United States and Canada.

The news comes as the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. considers whether to keep the NPE trade show at McCormick or move it to Orlando, Fla.

Updated Nov. 17, 10:20 a.m. ET) -- Major Canadian private equity firm Onex Corp. is planning an initial public offering for Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., according to a report in the Toronto
Globe & Mail. Onex plans to sell its stake in the Bolton, Ontario-based maker of injection presses, robots, PET preform molds and hot runners in the next few months, potentially raising US$1.3 billion, according to the report.

(Nov. 13, 1:40 p.m. ET) -- University of Massachusetts at Lowell professor Robert Malloy believes the region’s plastics history should be remembered and on display for all to see. “Our intent is to set up a mini-version of the Plastics Museum either on campus or perhaps in conjunction with another museum,” he said.

BOLTON, ONTARIO (Nov. 10, 4 p.m. ET) -- Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. is contracting out its parts distribution activities. Husky Chief Operating Officer Keith Carlton said the move will improve distribution because Caterpillar Logistics Services Inc. is close to a primary shipping hub in Louisville, Ky., and it offers longer shipping hours.

SWEDEN (Nov. 5, 12:25 p.m. ET) -- Rapid Granulator AB has been granted a suspension of old debts by the District Court of Jönköping. The court has granted permission for a so-called reconstruction procedure, which under Swedish law, allows the company to continue in business. This means that Rapid will continue to operate as usual, including the fulfilment of all service contracts, product guarantees and obligations.

He replaces immediate past chair Jim Buonomo, the chief strategy officer and chief financial officer of Nypro Inc. in Clinton, Mass.

GLENVIEW, ILL. (Nov. 4, 6:20 p.m. ET) -- Illinois Tool Works Inc. today announced that it has acquired the assets of Greenville, S.C.-based packaging machinery maker Hartness International Inc. Hartness makes packaging equipment and conveyors for bottling and material handling. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
