LIMA, OHIO (Nov. 3, 3:55 p.m. ET) -- Start-up compounder Planet Friendly Polymers plans to open a plant in Lima by the end of the year. The firm plans to spend $1.3 million on the 50,000-square-foot plant. Some of the plant’s output will be sold on the open market, with the rest going to products marketed by a sister company that sells plastic containers and storage products.

TOLEDO, OHIO (Oct. 30, 1:10 p.m. ET) -- Two Ohio molders are expanding, in part to serve appliance company Whirlpool Corp. Magna Exteriors and Interiors is investing $17.5 million to add equipment in Toledo, and Revere Plastics Systems plans to invest $10 million for a 50,000-square-foot expansion and new equipment in Clyde.

GUANGZHOU, CHINA (Oct. 16, 3:25 p.m. ET) — Plastic packaging extruder Specialty Polyfilms India Pvt. Ltd. invested in a significant capacity expansion in August, as the company sees growth for its plastic food wrap in both its domestic market and among increasingly cost-conscious European consumers.

GREENVILLE, MICH. (Oct. 8, 4:35 p.m. ET) — Two injection molders plan to add more than 100 jobs in Greenville, including a company bringing business to the United States from China. Zero1 LLC of Ada, Mich., has been involved with designing and backing office chairs made in China, but now plans to launch production in Greenville, sharing space at a plant owned by Clarion Technologies Inc.

HONG KONG (Oct. 5, 10:50 a.m. ET ) — Projections for solid growth during the next 20 years in Asia’s aerospace market, even factoring in a slumping market from the economic crisis, are drawing some plastics firms to look for opportunities there. Several American, Japanese and Hong Kong firms came to the Asian Aerospace International Expo and Congress, held Sept. 8-10 in Hong Kong, hoping to tap into the Asia Pacific market or reinforce their position in the aviation supply chain.

CLINTON, MASS. (Oct. 2, 4:10 p.m. ET) — Nypro Inc. will close its plant in Guangzhou, China, and move production to its plant in Shenzhen, roughly 100 miles away. The consolidation is expected to be completed by February. The company is “consolidating to fewer, larger, full-service manufacturing operations in order to better serve our customers with greater scope and scale,” said Nelson Ngai, group vice president of consumer and electronics.

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WIS. (Oct. 1, 4:30 p.m. ET) — Housewares company Jifram Extrusions Inc. has added a Davis-Standard Corp. Super Blue extruder to boost its production. Jifram, which has seen sales increasing for its products sold at major retail outlets, bought the 3½-inch extruder from the show floor display at NPE 2009.

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (Sept. 30, 1:05 p.m. ET) -- A new sustainability study shows that the vast majority of consumers currently purchase at least some green products. The study, by Cambridge-based Grail Research, indicates that 84 percent of consumers buy green products and that only 1 percent who previously purchased green products has abandoned that category.

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WIS. (Sept. 24, 4 p.m. ET) — Housewares injection molder Iris USA Inc. is adding new equipment to improve efficiency at its plants in Pleasant Prairie and Mesquite, Texas. The company will install 50 new JSW all-electric presses, plus 38 Motoman robots, by the end of the year. “We are proud that we are financially strong to make this kind of investment,” President Chet Keizer said. “Iris is investing for the long-term future.”

On any flat surface, a rider’s hip movements can generate motion for a set of $120-retail swivel-connected Shred Sled boards, which offer "the freedom to combine skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding."

BATAVIA, ILL. (Sept. 16, 3:20 p.m. ET) — Suncast Corp. is best known for its plastic hose reels, storage products and garden sheds, but its newest products are made of wood. The company bought HomePlace Structures, a company that sells Amish-made wooden furniture, including elaborate playhouses, gazebos, garden sheds, cabins and garages. Suncast said it now is the only manufacturer to offer outdoor storage products made of injection molded and blow molded plastics and wood.
