SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (March 3, 5:50 a.m. ET) -- The body encouraging development of more environmentally friendly buildings in Australia has revised its previously negative view on PVC materials. The Sydney-based Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) said its new system for rating the plastic should be in force by April following a review that ended in February. and considered advances made by the PVC sector.

SPRINGDALE, ARK. (Feb. 26, 11:15 a.m. ET) -- A new plastics recycling facility near Watts, Okla., is starting operations, Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. said. The AERT site received final approval from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality to start production, and an initial run took place Feb. 25.

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 19, 12:25 p.m. ET) -- JM Eagle is fighting back against a whistle-blower lawsuit that alleges the company knowingly made substandard PVC water and sewer pipe. In a Feb. 18 news conference, JM Eagle’s lawyers said none of the governmental bodies that have joined the suit had complained about leaking pipe. The lawyers also released a sworn statement from a pipe buyer who said the whistle-blower, John Hendrix, offered him a kickback deal.

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 18, 12:45 p.m. ET) -- As a longtime carpenter and contractor, Douglas Spear is bothered by the mess caused by the removal of temporary walls made of drywall mounted on metal studs. He estimates that every 12-foot-high-by-70-foot-long temporary wall that is demolished sends about 1 ton of debris to the landfill. But now he has a recyclable alternative made from thermoformed plastic.

Updated Feb. 12, 3:25 p.m. ET) -- JM Eagle has been hit with a whistleblower lawsuit, joined by four states and 43 California cities and water districts, charging that under the direction of President Walter Wang, the company knowingly made substandard PVC water and sewer pipe to increase its profit. JM Eagle denied the charges. Spokesman Marcus Galindo said the company’s pipe “meets or exceeds all standards,” including for tensile strength.
