Plastic pipe maker JM Eagle runs ad during Olympics

LOS ANGELES (August 19, 2008) -- Los Angeles-based JM Eagle has debuted a new television commercial during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The ad focuses on a “power of water” theme, highlighting the role of water in people’s lives and the importance of transporting it safely and efficiently. According to Advertising Age, a sister publication of Plastics News, through five days, NBC Universal said it has attracted 168 million total viewer for the Olympics, nearly 15 million more than the first five days for Athens, which reached 153 million viewers.

BASF gets its foot in the door at the Beijing Olympics

BEIJING (August 5, 2008) -- A range of BASF AG products and solutions will be used for a variety of purposes, including for athletic shoes, in this year´s summer Olympic Games in Beijing, the company announced. BASF touts subsidiary Elastogran GmbH’s Elastollan thermoplastic polyurethane as a “key component” in athletic shoes.

Lubrizol makes its China debut at the Beijing Olympics

BEIJING (July 29, 2008) -- While spectators probably won’t see it, one U.S.-based company expects the debut of its technology in China will make a splash at the Beijing Olympic Games. Lubrizol Advanced Materials Inc. has provided the piping that will support the water treatment system at the giant Water Cube Olympic pool complex. The company’s Corzan CPVC piping system, along with its fittings, is highly resistant to the corrosive chemicals being used in the filtration system. The material is also highly impact-resistant and needs little maintenance compared to metal-based systems.



Australian firm to supply ‘green’ bags for Olympics

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (June 17, 2008) -- An Australian bioplastic manufacturer has won a contract to provide biodegradable packaging to the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Biograde Ltd., headquartered in Melbourne, will supply seven types of bag to Olympic organizers for use as bin liners, branded show bags and waste management bags. Factors that played a key role in the committee’s choice of Biograde were that its bags meet the European compostability standard, a requirement of the committee, and the fact that the packaging can be produced at the company’s plant in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.

SHANGHAI (May 27, 2008) -- Filling an upstairs showroom at Shanghai Chunxu Mould Industrial Co. Ltd. is an array of plastic products. From a colorful set of children’s toys to fuel tanks and fenders, the rotational molded goods trace Chunxu’s nearly 15-year rotomolding history. And last year, the company was chosen to supply a series of red drums for a Beijing Olympic installation. After the designs were drawn up, a rotomolder was needed to produce the drums and Chunxu’s name came up. And these aren’t just ordinary drums, they are light fixtures.

PolyJohn hopes to provide portable toilets for Olympics
WETHERBY, ENGLAND (November 13, 2007) -- In the hopes to continue a legacy of supplying the Olympics, PolyJohn International Ltd. has linked up with an Indian molder, Sintex Industries Ltd., in their bid to supply the Beijing Olympics with much-needed portable toilets.

But the world´s third-largest computer manufacturer also is leveraging its Olympic sponsorship at home, and not just in big cities. Through an ambitious roadshow program, Lenovo is visiting 1,000 tier-five and tier-six cities and towns, from Lhasa in Tibet to Sanya in Hainan province.
