California's EnVino finding success with PET wine bottles BURLINGAME, CALIF. (August 18, 2009) -- A joint venture between a plastic bottle maker and thermoforming packaging manufacturer is making an aggressive push to penetrate the wine industry with
plastics. With clear bottles for whites and green-hued bottles for reds, the bottles come in three sizes: 187 milliliter, the industry standard 750 milliliter, and 1 liter.

Mill Valley becomes 24th Calif. town to ban PS packaging MILL VALLEY, CALIF. (August 11, 2009) -- Another California city has banned the use of polystyrene take-out packaging. Mill Valley, a town of nearly 15,000 four miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge
in San Francisco, approved a ban on Aug. 3 that will go into effect Nov. 2.
US sets duties on plastic bags from Thailand WASHINGTON (August 11, 2009) -- In a preliminary ruling, the U.S. Commerce Department has levied the highest possible anti-dumping duty of 122.88 percent on plastic bags exported to the U.S. by Master
Packaging Co. Ltd. of Bangkok, Thailand. The agency said the company did not respond to the agency’s request for information.

U.S. sets duties on plastic bags from China WASHINGTON (August 4, 2009) — Plastic bags from Zhongshan, Guangdong-based Rally Plastics Co. Ltd. that were exported to the U.S. between August 2007 and July 2008 may be levied anti-dumping duties
of 17.95 percent, according to a preliminary decision by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Snappy innovation for plastics packaging OYONNAX, FRANCE (July 21, 2009) -- The breakage-resistant property of plastics is an advantage in most applications but not in production of ampoules, which are opened by snapping away the neck. Now,
the French plastic processor Sériplast has developed a technology that uses irradiation to embrittle the neck of a polypropylene (PP) ampoule, allowing it to be "snapped" open without the risk of
sharp glass splinters.

US renewing antidumping duties on Asian plastic bags WASHINGTON (July 14, 2009) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce is conducting an annual administrative review of a 2004 antidumping order on imports of plastic grocery and shopping bags from Malaysia,
China and Thailand. The agency will announce its preliminary ruling on whether to continue existing antidumping duties bags imported from China on July 22.
Thailand promoting biodegradable bag project BANGKOK (July 14, 2009) -- BASF SE is leading a pilot project to promote the use of biodegradable bags in Thailand. The pilot project, which will run from July to December in the Samut Songkhram
Province, aims to use biodegradable bags to collect household organic waste and produce high-quality compost that will serve as organic fertilizer for the purpose of soil improvement.
