Wanhua to take over BorsodChem in Hungary
LONDON (March 12, 2010) -- China’s Wanhua Industrial group has won the option to take over the Hungarian PVC group BorsodChem within two years in return for providing €140 million (1.3 billion yuan) to help fund the indebted chemical firm’s expansion.

Australia green building rules revised in favor of PVC
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (March 8, 2010) -- Sydney-based Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has revised its previously negative view on PVC materials. The new system for rating the plastic should be in force by April.

Coal-based PVC maker continues expansion in China
URUMQI, CHINA (March 5, 2010) -- Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co. Ltd., based in Urumqi, plans to add more PVC capacity, as it expects PVC price and market demand to rise in 2010.

Cereplast names Huang sales director for Asia
AKRON, OHIO (February 22, 2010) -- Bioresin maker Cereplast Inc. of Hawthorne, Calif. named Simon Huang as director of sales and marketing for Asia. Huang, born in Beijing, will be spending six months a year in China and the Asia-Pacific region.

Study quantifies PET bottle lightweighting
ALEXANDRIA, VA. (February 19, 2010) -- According to a newly-released industry study, between 2000 and 2008, the weight of 16.9-ounce, single-serve PET water bottles dropped by nearly 33 percent. In 2008 alone, the bottled water industry saved 445 million pounds of PET by reducing bottle weights.
