SCHWAIG, GERMANY (September 1, 2009) -- French automation supplier Sepro Robotique will supply robots to Injection press maker Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH — and Sumitomo Demag
intends to fully integrate the robots into its presses, under an agreement signed in June.
Officials of Sumitomo Demag said the Sepro robots give the Schwaig-based company a standardized robot system, to help the press manufacturer meet global demand for automated machines.
Sepro’s SDR series of three-axis robots has been attuned to Sumitomo Demag’s hydraulic Systec presses and the all-electric IntElect series, with clamping forces ranging from 35 to 2,000 metric
tons.
Sepro robots use the French company’s Visual 2 controller, which communicates with the Sumitomo Demag injection press through the Euromap 67 protocol that defines the connection between an
injection molding machine and a robot or handling device.
Sumitomo Demag intends to fully integrate the Sepro control into its own NC5 controller in the future, officials said.
Sumitomo Demag will continue to offer the DR7 and DR8 series of robots, developed with robot-maker Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH.
