Germany's Ossberger sees signs of automotive recovery

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 30, 2009) -- German machinery maker Ossberger, represented in North America by FGH Systems Inc. of Denville, New Jersey, reports some first signs of improvement in the global automotive sector — where it is a key supplier of equipment for flexible boot and bellows production — but is unsure how quickly that will be felt in the United States.

Negri Bossi builds 7,000-ton injection press

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 30, 2009) -- Italian injection press maker Negri Bossi SpA has built a giant injection press, with 7,000 metric tons of clamping force, for a customer in Japan. The press is Negri Bossi’s largest-ever injection molding machine.

Qinchuan-Future Plastic mulls initial public offering

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 30, 2009) -- Strong growth in the wood-plastic composite market is prompting joint venture Chinese wood-plastic composite equipment maker Qinchuan-Future Plastic Machinery Co. Ltd. to consider an initial public offering, a company executive said in an interview at NPE2009. The Baoji, Shaanxi province-based company hopes to raise funds for an expansion to handle increasing demand in both China’s domestic wood-plastic composite market and in exports, said Wayne Song, director of one of the joint venture partners in the machinery maker.

Conair scores high with $2 million in sales at NPE2009

CHICAGO (June 26, 2009) -- Conair Group Inc. sold multiple energy-efficient, single-stage PET drying systems and other equipment to two customers for a total of about $2 million in sales — a figure Conair officials characterized as being among their largest-ever NPE deals. ā€œOrders of this sort are significant any time,ā€ Larry Doyle, Conair’s vice president of global sales and market, said at NPE. ā€œWhat’s been most exciting this week has been the fact that customers are coming to NPE eager to talk about investing in real projects.ā€

Jwell building new factory, mulling acquisition

CHICAGO (June 26, 2009) -- Chinese equipment maker Shanghai Jwell Extrusion Machinery Co. Ltd. is building a new factory in Suzhou to significantly expand its capacity, as executives say they are looking at an European acquisition.

CHICAGO (June 26, 2009) -- Italian machinery group Sacmi Imola S.C. demonstrates its Compression Blow Forming (CBF) technology for production of small blow molded containers for the first time in North America on its booth at NPE.

Conair drops lawsuit after Novatec changes wording

CHICAGO (June 26, 2009) -- The Conair-vs.-Novatec dryer lawsuit has ended with a mere change to product literature wording — but the war of words goes on. Conair Group Inc. has dropped its patent infringement lawsuit against Novatec Inc. after Novatec agreed to add a sentence to its product literature and Web site information about its Intelli PET Drying System.

Taiwan's Jenn Chong to double capacity

CHICAGO (June 25, 2009) -- Taiwanese equipment maker Jenn Chong Plastics Machinery Works Co. Ltd. showed a blown film line at NPE that was bound for a Canadian customer. The Tai Pao, Taiwan-based company also plans to add another 43,000 square feet to its existing facility, giving it about 75,000 square feet, as demand for its film extruders, monofilament extruders and strapping machines grows.

Wittmann Battenfeld eyes large press market, all-electrics

CHICAGO (June 25, 2009) -- Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH plans to reenter the large machine market and introduce its next generation all-electrics, as the company unveiled a series of new robots, equipment and manufacturing cells at NPE to take advantage of its year-old acquisition of Battenfeld’s press making operations.

Rapid Granulator buys Shanghai's Avian

CHICAGO (June 24, 2009) -- Swedish-based Rapid Granulator AB has acquired Avian (Shanghai) Machinery Co. Ltd. of Shanghai, China, in a transaction that boosts its presence in recycling equipment and gives them a 540,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and a well-established Chinese distribution network.

Husky reroutes spending into packaging, medical

CHICAGO (June 24, 2009) -- John Galt, top executive at Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., said a more-focused Husky is well-positioned to withstand a tough market for new-press sales. Husky is demonstrating at NPE2009 high-speed closure molding on a new HyCAP machine and its offerings in hot runners, production monitoring and preventative maintenance.

European source for Zhafir all electric machines nearer
EBERMANNSDORF, GERMANY (June 24, 2009) -- European assembly of the Zhafir Venus Series of all-electric injection moulding machines from China’s giant Haitian International concern has come a stage closer with last week’s topping out ceremony of the E10m site in Germany. The schedule calls for the assembly of the Venus units to start at the end of this year.

U.S. machinery shipments plunged in fourth quarter
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 23, 2009) -- The U.S. plastics equipment market suffered an across-the-board decline in 2008 that hit all sectors of injection presses, extruders, blow molders, auxiliaries and screws and barrels, according to a year-end report from the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc.

TSL thermoformer aims for mid-size market

CHICAGO (June 23, 2009) -- Thermoforming Systems LLC is using NPE2009 as a platform to launch a product into the growing mid-sized trim in place machine market. This market segment is dominated by European suppliers and offers great opportunities to sell machines worldwide, said President James Naughton.

Gefran implements new sales style and expands in China

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 22, 2009) -- Gefran Inc. sells pressure transducers and other sensors, automation components and drives, and motion controllers -- but new executive Eric Kirleis wants Gefran to take a systems approach, instead of just selling on-off components, catalog style. Gefran also is expanding globally, which includes opening a plant in Shanghai. At NPE2009, Gefran is showing components aimed at extrusion, blow molding and injection molding at Booth N85021.
