Jiangsu Sopo to license DuPont vinyl acetate technology
By Nina Ying Sun
PLASTICS NEWS

ZHENJIANG, CHINA (November 1, 2009) -- Jiangsu Sopo (Group) Co. Ltd. will license technology from DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers for a new 330,000-ton-per-year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) manufacturing plant to be located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.

The new plant, to be operational in 2013, will be integrated into Sopo’s existing Zhenjiang site, which includes manufacturing of chlorine alkali products and rubber accelerants; a methanol plant and a 1,200,000-ton-per-annum acetic acid plant. The VAM project will use feedstock supply from the acetic acid plant.

“This project is the first cooperation between Sopo and DuPont and it marks a very good beginning. We look forward to further cooperation with DuPont in other areas,” Shouyan Shao, Sopo vice president said in a news release.

“Licensing our technology to Sopo demonstrates our commitment to using market-driven technology to meet customer needs and enable growth in emerging global markets,” added William J. Harvey, president of DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers.
