Yantai Wanhua's MDI used in China's high-speed railway
Yantai, China (November 9, 2009) -- Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes Co.'s MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) products are to be used in the construction of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway in China – the world's largest polyurea waterproofing project.

Air Products opens speciality amines plant in China
NANJING (November 9, 2009) -- Air Products Chemicals Inc. has opened a new speciality amines plant in Nanjing, China, to support local customers in the polyurethane additives and epoxy markets.

Closure Systems International planning plant in Bangalore
BANGALORE (November 9, 2009) -- Closure Systems International announced Nov. 3 that it will open a plastic closure plant in Bangalore, India, in early 2010. The plant will be the Indianapolis-based company's second in India, and 31st globally.

China's research output to overtake US within a decade
LONDON (November 4, 2009) -- China's research output will overtake the U.S. within the next decade, according to a new study from Thomson Reuters, a New York-based market research specialist. Key figures from the report found that China has more than doubled its research output since 2004 and published nearly 112,000 research papers in 2008.

WWF helps Chinese firms slash carbon emissions

HONG KONG (November 3, 2009) -- Plastic companies in China could cut their greenhouse gas emissions by about 20 percent with a relatively small investment, under a new initiative developed by the environmental group WWF to help clean up South China’s heavily polluted Pearl River Delta region. That's according to Karen Ho, WWF’s business engagement leader in its Hong Kong office.

U.S. imposes duties on plastic bags from Asia
WASHINGTON (November 1, 2009) -- The U.S. Commerce Department has imposed antidumping duties ranging from just under 29 percent to just under 96 percent on imports of plastic shopping bags from Vietnam, Indonesia and Taiwan.

Formosa Q3 results show improvement
TAIPEI (November 1, 2009) Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics, one of Asia's top petrochemical producers, posted a net Q3 profit of T$9.2 billion (1.9 billion yuan) compared with a second quarter profit of T$7.7 billion (1.6 billion yuan).

BASF Q3 results: recovery will be slow and uneven
LUDWIGSHAFEN, GERMANY (November 1, 2009) -- BASF’s figures for the third quarter of 2009 demonstrate its operational strength in the global economic crisis, according to company chairman Dr Jürgen Hambrecht. “Positive impulses are coming from Asia, especially from China, and from parts of South America. Europe and North America remain weak,” he said.

Jiangsu Sopo to license DuPont vinyl acetate technology
ZHENJIANG, CHINA (November 1, 2009) -- Jiangsu Sopo (Group) Co. Ltd. will license technology from DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers for a new 330,000-ton-per-year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) manufacturing plant to be located in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province.

Steer enters new markets
Bangalore (November 1, 2009) -- Bangalore-based Steer Engineering Pvt. Ltd. has appointed Taurus Comtrade Fzco of Dubai its agency to sell Steer’s products in the Middle East Asia and Africa.
