GUANGHZOU (June 9, 2009) -- The demand for plastic products created by post-earthquake reconstruction projects in Sichuan province can be measured by these goals: In the next three years, the province
plans to rebuild 51,000 kilometers of road, 5,500 kilometers of railroad lines, 17,000 schools, 9,700 medical facilities, 5,300 kilometers of gas pipeline, and 6,970 kilometers of water supply
pipeline.
In addition to the 1.7 trillion yuan reconstruction projects, the provincial government will invest 3 trillion yuan on industrial development -- including natural-gas-based petrochemical projects and
solar power projects -- and civil works, according to a government representative Yag Li.
Speaking at the recent Chinaplas trade show in Guangzhou, Li told the audience that Sichuan’s investment plan to stimulate domestic consumption is the most ambitious among all regions in
China.
In response to the urgent market demand, privately owned Shanxi Zhongde Plastic-Steel Profiles Co. Ltd. has recently launched a new plant in Chengdu, Sichuan province, with 40 extrusion lines, after
seven months of construction. Company manager Cheng Yu said the new facility is not only supplying window and door profiles to the local market, but also has created hundreds of new jobs.
Near the plastic building material pavilion at the Chinaplas show, a signing ceremony marked the establishment of the “capital of China’s plastic building material industry” in Longjiang
township of Guangdong province. Longjiang is home to more than 200 manufacturers of plastic construction products, including leading pipe producer Guangdong Liansu Science & Technology Group.
Guangdong Plastics Processing Industry Association President Fu An said the trade group will help Longjiang attract investment and develop a new industrial park for plastic manufacturers.
