BASF sees potential in China's auto market

GUANGZHOU, CHINA (June 22, 2009) -- Despite the general market slowdown, BASF SE sees potential in the growing Chinese automotive sector, and believes it can help Chinese car makers upgrade quality and save cost with innovative engineering resin products.

Gefran implements new sales style and expands in China

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (June 22, 2009) -- Gefran Inc. sells pressure transducers and other sensors, automation components and drives, and motion controllers -- but new executive Eric Kirleis wants Gefran to take a systems approach, instead of just selling on-off components, catalog style. Gefran also is expanding globally, which includes opening a plant in Shanghai. At NPE2009, Gefran is showing components aimed at extrusion, blow molding and injection molding at Booth N85021.

Arburg launches new hybrid injection machines
LOSSBURG, GERMANY (June 22, 2009) -- German injection machinery maker Arburg GmbH + Co. KG used its annual Technology Days open house event at its headquarters in Lossburg to launch its energy-saving Hidrive hybrid machine line and to invite customers into its newly completed customer center.

IDI Composites buys plants in China and France
NOBELSVILLE, INDIANA (June 22, 2009) -- IDI Composites International has acquired thermoset material plants in France and China in a deal that, officials said, will make the firm the largest supplier of thermoset molding compounds in the world.

Nypro boosts medical capacity in China and France
NEW YORK (June 23, 2009) -- Nypro Inc. is expanding its medical operations in China and Europe as part of its strategy to increase the percentage of its sales from medical from 30 percent to 40 percent over the next two years. “Asia continues to be where we put a lot of our energies because our customers are manufacturing there,” Brian Payson, vice president of business development for Nypro Healthcare, told Plastics News at the Medical Design & Manufacturing East show in New York.

Nissei strengthening presence in South, Southeast Asia
NAGANO, JAPAN (June 22, 2009) -- Injection molding machinery maker Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. Ltd. will set up offices in India and Vietnam to bolster its presence in South and Southeast Asia and respond to an influx of Japanese companies in those countries.

Borouge’s investment fuels growth impetus in China

GUANGZHOU (June 22, 2009) -- Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates-based polyolefins supplier Borouge Pte. Ltd. is forging ahead with its investments in China and the Middle East to support fast growth in the Chinese market, in spite of the global economic downturn and market fluctuation. “Demand in China has picked up in the last couple of months, and government stimulus packages are turning out good results here,” Chief Executive Officer William Yau told Plastics News at Chinaplas.

Greif signs deal with IBC maker Jielin Plastic Pipe
DELAWARE, OHIO (June 16, 2009) -- American industrial packaging firm Greif Inc. and China’s Zibo Jielin Plastic Pipe Manufacture Co. Ltd. have reached a strategic agreement to give Greif exclusive rights to market and sell Jielin’s intermediate bulk containers (IBC) worldwide.

KraussMaffei expanding PU equipment business in Asia
SHANGHAI (June 16, 2009) -- German machinery maker KraussMaffei Machinery Co. Ltd. is expanding its capabilities for polyurethane (PU) equipment in Asia, expanding capacity in both China and Japan, in response to a growing PU market in both countries.

PTI to introduce Globaline extrusion system at NPE
CHICAGO (June 16, 2009) -- Processing Technologies International LLC (PTI) is unveiling its new Globaline extrusion system that allows efficient short-run production of sheet at NPE2009. The system is especially designed for PTI’s strategy of expanding into areas such as Russia, Eastern Europe, South America, China and India where an extrusion line needs to handle a variety of jobs.

Steer Engineering aims for top of China extruder market

GUANGZHOU (June 16, 2009) -- Bangalore, India-based extruder maker Steer Engineering Pvt. Ltd. has made its first global acquisition -- of single-screw pipeline extruder maker Nantong Zhenfeng Machinery Factory in Tongzhou, Jiangsu province. Founder and managing director Babu Padmanabhan said the foray into China will give the company “an unprecedented advantage to address clients’ needs in a unified, cost-effective way.” Steer’s ambitious goal is to challenge Nanjing’s current status as China’s capital of extrusion machines and take the crown to Nantong instead.

German molder Oechsler optimistic in China

GUANGZHOU (June 16, 2009) -- German-based precision injection molder Oechsler AG said its China sales are recovering, and it intends to proceed with an expansion plan in 2010 if the trend continues. The global recession hit the company’s sales in the fourth quarter of last year and the first quarter this year, said Vincent Chan, deputy general manager of Oechsler Plastic Products (Taicang) Co. Ltd. “But we’ve seen a recovery in recent months, largely due to Chinese policies to stimulate the auto and appliances markets."

BrĂĽckner says China market is strong for its equipment

GUANGZHOU (June 16, 2009) -- Don’t talk about recession blues in China to Markus Gschwandtner. The Siegsdorf, Germany-based sales director for oriented-film equipment supplier Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG says demand for his firm’s types of large, high-end lines has bounced back nicely in China, where Brückner claims about 90 percent market share.

Scientex purchases Gloucester cast stretch film line
GUANGZHOU (June 16, 2009) -- Malaysian processor Scientex Packaging Film Sdn. Bhd. signs a contract at Chinaplas to order a second cast stretch film line from U.S.-based Gloucester Engineering Co. Inc.
